CMRL 1066 is a modified version of Medium 199 and was designed initially for used with L-strain cells in unsupplemented culture. It has been used to maintain monolayer growth of permanent cell lines for an extended period of time without protein supplementation. Although developed for use in serum-free cell culture, CMRL 1066 can be supplemented with serum and used to support the growth of many types of cells.
