L-glutamine
L-glutamine is an essential amino acid and a key component of culture media, serving as a major energy source for propagating cells. It is very stable as a dry powder and as a frozen solution but degrades rapidly in liquid media or stock solutions, producing compounds toxic to cells. Optimal cell performance usually requires supplementation of the media with L-glutamine prior to use. This formulation is prepared in cell culture grade water.
